The Encinitas bier garden is bringing urban lounging and drinking to the coast of Encinitas. Upon entering you will notice the brand new interior and very casual rustic vibe.

Plenty of seating inside, around the bar, or you can sit outside and take in the splendid views of people entering and departing from their Whole Foods shopping experience.

This particular day was Tuesday and their standard happy hour fare was what we were there to experience. Started off with a Mission Blonde Ale which was exactly like it sounded, a nice clean blonde that can’t displease. A New Grist gluten free ale was also tested and proved very simple and light, not much flavor profile going on here but definitely an acceptable option for a gluten-free person trying to wash down some small plate fare.

An order of short-rib nachos was on the agenda and when they arrived so did my Ballast Point Yellow Tale Ale. This Ale was a nice change from the previous two beers, nice smooth hoppy flavor, not too hoppy and not to pale, a perfect balance to the nachos about to be devoured. Beer in hand staring as a bowl of fresh corn chips, smothered in fresh cheese and chipotle aioli, mango salsa with cucumbers and the star of the plate, chunks of slow braised short-ribs topping off the plate. This was the perfect plate to share with a friend and put back a couple hoppy beverages. Everything on the plate complemented the other flavors perfectly, with the salsa and aioli really freshening up a plate of nachos and providing a perfect balance to the savory chunks of perfectly cooked beef.

Everything was washed down with a local Julian Cider which was very light and dry, not too much flavor profile going on but still managed to wet the whistle after a great nacho feast. Don’t hesitate to give this place a try as they have plenty of small plate specials for happy hour and many drinks to match.
